Shotei

People that have never really trained Karate think about breaking boards, a flying kick and of course Kiai when they think about Karate. Next probably is Shuto, while Seiken is more characteristic for basic Karate training. Shotei (or Teisho) is one of the Shuto variations, the open hand techniques.

Shotei is the palm of the hand and can be used for attack as well as defence. You can find Shotei in Kata:

  • Osae uke in Seishan
  • Age uke in Jitte and Wanshu
  • Otoshi uke in Jitte and Wanshu
  • Yoko harai uke in Niseishi
